Cerys Newman Morley
PRESIDENT
This year I am the President of LBSS! This means I ensure that - with the help of our wonderful committee - the whole society runs smoothly for all our members. I joined LBSS during my second year at university and wish I'd joined sooner. This will now be my third year in the society, and my second year on committee. I didn't have much prior dance experience, and was quite nervous when I first joined. But those nerves quickly disappeared thanks to how friendly and welcoming everyone in the society is. Dancing and competing with LBSS has been the highlight of my time at uni and I can't wait to spend another year with such an amazing society!

GENERAL SECRETARY
Hi guys, I am your General Secretary this year so I am responsible for the admin of the society and will be working closely with our lovely president Cerys, I joined the society in my first year at uni and I'm glad I didn't wait as the society has some of the most warm and welcoming people I have met. This year I hope to continue my dancing experience as it will be my 2nd year as a Novice and I can't wait to start competing again. I look forward to meeting all our new members in September.

Maddy Griggs Laing
TREASURER
I'm the LBSS treasurer this year. I started dancing salsa at the end of 2018 and fell in love with it. I joined LBSS a year later and haven't looked back since! This society has meant that I've been able to meet some amazing new people, discover new dances, and get more involved with the dance community. I have so much fun as part of the LBSS society and it never fails to bring a smile to my face. I can't wait to meet some new people and have another incredible year!

Megan Curley
EXTERNAL RELATIONS OFFICER
I'm this year's External Relations Officer which involves updating the society's social media and website, and maintaining society sponsorship. I joined the society two years ago but last year was my first year on team and I wish I'd joined sooner. I'd been doing ballet since I was 2 so stepping into a new type of dance was very scary but you'll find that everyone is so friendly and supportive that the feeling soon disappears. Becoming part of the society was one of the best decisions I've made and I hope to be able to document all the fun we have this year, so don't be shy and strike a pose!

COMPETITION ORGANISER
I have wanted to be an events manager for a few years now which is why I chose a management degree, and I have danced different styles for over 10 years. LBSS is trusting me to organise the second biggest uni circuit competition and therefore bringing two things I love together. I hope newcomers get to have a competition as magnificent as the one last year even in the current situation.

DEMONSTRATIONS and OFFBEAT OFFICER
I'm this year's Demonstrations and Offbeat Officer, which means I'm in charge of organising LBSS demonstrations for different events as well as Offbeat, a non-latin/ballroom routine for the two biggest competitions of the year. Last year was my first in the society but everyone was so great and welcoming that I felt at home in no time. I've made some of my closest friends through the society and I hope to attract more new people to the society and help them enjoy it as much as I have.

LATIN and BALLROOM
LESSONS OFFICER I am the Lessons Officer for Latin and Ballroom this year, that means that I will be there every Monday, as well as working in the background, to make sure our lessons are as good as they can be. I have been dancing with the society for two years now, but I danced for a few years before that and I am so happy that I have found a society that is so friendly and supportive. This will be my second year on committee but my first year as Lessons Officer and I am looking forward to having lots of fun with our members on Monday evenings, and learning lots too! See you then!

LATIN and BALLROOM
TEAM CAPTAIN Hi, I'm George and I'm one of your Team Captains this year. As Team Captains, it's our job to organise everything team related, be that private lessons, team training sessions, or group practices! We will also be taking the team to competitions throughout the year, which are open to dancers of all levels and abilities and are undoubtedly some of the best days I've had at uni! I can't wait to meet all of our amazing newcomers in September, as it's the people you meet that make dancing at uni such an amazing experience.

LATIN and BALLROOM
TEAM CAPTAIN I am one of the new Team Captains this year! I joined LBSS in my first year and it has easily been one of the best parts of my university experience, not to mention the happiest I have ever been as a dancer! I am so excited to get started and jump straight back into dancing! I can't wait to introduce new beginners into the wonderful world of Ballroom and Latin, as well as watching all our current dancers improve and progress! So let's get started!!

LATIN and BALLROOM WELFARE OFFICER
|
I’m one of this year's Events Officers and I can't wait to start organising plenty of fun events this year! I joined LBSS and the Dancesport team last year and wish I had done so sooner. Growing up, I was involved in different styles of dance and a number of sports, however discovering Latin & Ballroom at uni has been such a blessing and I have met amazing people which really make events that much more fun. I'm really looking forward to getting underway in the new academic year and I hope everyone in the society can have a brilliant time!
|
I grew up dancing socially as opposed to competing, so for me dancing is about connecting with people and enjoying one's self. This is the attitude I want to bring to the role of Welfare Officer, bring a safe and welcoming environment for all our members new and old.

SALSA
LESSONS OFFICER As your Salsa Lessons Officer, I cannot wait to oversee your lessons that were always the highlight of my uni week! As a complete beginner to Salsa last September, it was nerve-wracking to join in at first, but the society really encouraged me to keep learning and get involved in lots of social dancing and competitions, which I had never tried before! Joining LBSS was a real confidence-booster, and this is down to our amazing teachers, members, and committee. I am really excited to work alongside them by ensuring lessons run smoothly, to help in every way I can, and to welcome people of all abilities to Salsa!

SALSA
TEAM CAPTAIN Hi, I started dancing salsa 2 and a half years ago with LBSS. Joining the society was one of the best decisions I've made. I'm hoping that this year we'll be able to organise some trips to salsa events at other universities. Normally we go to Loughborough and Birmingham. We'll have to wait and see what's running this year, but if the events are running we'll be going.

SALSA
TEAM CAPTAIN I am one of the Salsa Team Captains this year. Since joining LBSS last year, I have fallen in love with dance and it has become a big highlight of my uni experience. From meeting lots of new people to amazing dance teachers, LBSS is a great society to get involved with. As part of my role, I will help organise trips to competitions and workshops and help to support, encourage, and build confidence in all dancers, especially those who are just starting out.

WELFARE OFFICER |
I have always loved to dance, however I've never found the courage to join any lessons before coming to Nottingham. Joining the society one year ago was one of the best decisions I've ever made. Everyone is so welcoming and I ended up loving salsa. One of the things that made me love dancing is all the social events I went to last year. That's why I am the Salsa Events Officer this year. I am looking forward to welcoming you so that we can go on nights out, competitions, social dancing, meals together, and more. Don't be shy and join us! You won't regret it!
|
I am Bhupali Aithal, a current year 3 Psychology student and the Salsa Welfare Officer this year. I hope to help and guide any welfare issues that the members of the society may have and help other individuals discover the same love for Salsa that I have found and be a part of this amazing community.
