Hello and Thank You for visiting Nottingham University’s Dancesport Team page.
The team is open to all members of the Latin & Ballroom and Salsa Society (LBSS), including Nottingham Trent University students. We welcome everyone, from complete beginners to those whom are highly experienced. Don’t worry if you don’t have a partner, We run 'Pairing-Up' sessions at the beginning of the term.
Our Dancesport Team represents the competitive aspect of Latin and Ballroom dancing, and is in addition to weekly Monday evening L&B Society lessons. Affiliated with the Inter Varsity Dancesport Association (IVDA) we compete regularly on the University Dancesport Circuit.
Competitions take place throughout the year at Universities across the country, climaxing in March at Blackpool’s Winter Gardens (home to Europe’s largest sprung dance floor!) for the Inter Varsity Dance Competition (IVDC) - our equivalent to Nationals. We like to make a weekend out of IVDC; staying for 2-nights at a hotel located a ‘quickstep’ away from both the Winter Gardens and the beach. Dancing, clubbing, seaside, fish & chips and arcades - a really fun, exciting weekend getaway; definitely a highlight of the year!
Most recently, we won at NUDC 2019, and placed 6th at IVDC 2019!
2018/2019 was a great year for us; following successes at competitions throughout the year, we came 6th out of all competing Universities at IVDC and were the top-ranking Northern University. This was accomplished by achievements at all dancing levels, with a number of our beginner couples making it to the finals.
Team members attend weekly lessons with our excellent coach, Jackie Conway, with the option for further private tuition as well. We run relaxed practices throughout the week, which are a great opportunity to practise your routines, implement Jackie’s pointers, get tips from more experienced dancers and if all else fails, have a good chat and some fun!
Although we encourage team members to attend practices and enter competitions, it’s completely up to you and your partner how involved you wish to be - some of our couples practice upwards of 3 times a week and enter every competition, while others pop along twice a term! None of the practices are compulsory, so you can come to as many as you would like and to stay at the practice for as long as you would like - you can chose to be as competitive or relaxed as you want!
Aside from competitions, being part of our Dancesport Team is a great way to improve your dancing, to visit a variety of different universities and dance halls throughout England, and most importantly, it's the best way to get to know members of the society through socialising at practices, competitions and our amazing socials.
If you would like more information, please feel free to speak to any member of the committee at dance lessons or practices, or email us at email@example.com.
We hope to welcome you to our team in the near future!
