When rock & roll music began to replace the older swing music in popularity, the lindy-hop and boogie woogie styles of dance developed more acrobatic elements and transformed into rock & roll dance.
Rock & roll is a fun, energetic dance, which is danced (surprisingly enough) to rock & roll music. Apart from always being danced to 4-4 rock & roll style music, it is largely free-style and there are many different interpretations of the dance.
Competatively, rock & roll dance is split into two categories: Acrobatic and non-acrobatic.

Non-acrobatic rock & roll is similar to the Jive (see The Latin Dances) in style, although generally a bit faster, more energetic and more free-style.
While dances often largely consists of kicks and spins, there are often also slower elements mixed in such as twists or cross-steps.
Acrobatic rock & roll is the same basic dance as the non-acrobatic variety, but with acrobatic stunts thrown in - which tent to rather consume the dance, often leaving the original Rock & Roll moves which fill in the space as more of an after-thought.
These acrobatic stunts can include lifts, jumps, throws and flips.
Unfortunately we are not currently running any regular Rock & Roll lessons. However we do occasionally run workshops. For information on these please keep a close eye on our calendar
