OUR FIRST EVER 'NOTTINGHAM FRIENDLY DANCESPORT COMPETITION' 2019
We loved hosting our first ever Nottingham Friendly Competition, held in in the Marcus Garvey Ballroom, Nottingham on Saturday 15th June. Competitors came from as far as Edinburgh and London for Ballroom, Latin, rock and roll and salsa competitions, followed by a Disney themed Team Knockout and Team Match and was rounded off with pizza and our famous points game!
Our aim for this competition was to create an opportunity to finish the academic year the best way possible - dancing! Thank you to everyone who came, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did, and we cannot wait to see you all next year for our next friendly!
INTER VARSITY DANCE COMPETITION 2019
On the weekend of 22nd February, 60 dancers left Nottingham for a 4.5 hour coach journey to Blackpool to compete in out Inter Varsity Dance Competition (Nationals). Thanks to our fab TC Jess, we had plenty of quizzes and puzzles to keep us going on the journey!
When we got there, we all went for food at Mamma’s, an incredible Italian restaurant. This was followed by fake tan parties at the hotel, and the annual ‘Points Game’. Then an early night was needed before the early wake up in the morning. The competition itself was held on the Saturday in the Winter Gardens. Hundreds of dancers compete against each other across different categories throughout the day, culminating in a Team Match at the end of the day. We had some fantastic results throughout the day and our dancers were all cheered on by the amazing team spirit and sideline dances that Nottingham Dancesport Team is known for! We entered into the Offbeat category which is a group dance that cannot be latin or ballroom based. This year we performed a Harry Potter themed routine! After a long comp day, some much needed rest was had overnight, and then on Sunday we explored Blackpool’s arcades, fish and chip shops and had a dance at the Tea Dance in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom. We returned to Nottingham in the evening, ready and resembling oranges for lectures on Monday morning!
