LBSS Committee 19/20

PRESIDENT
I'm the President of LBSS this year, so it's my job to oversee the whole society with the help of a brilliant committee! After doing a bit of dancing before university (and getting over my initial nerves!) I joined LBSS in the group classes in my second term of first year studying maths, before joining team in my second year....I wish I'd joined immediately! I've loved every minute dancing and socialising with such a great group of friends (which is what we're all about!) and I can't wait to work for such a fantastic society!

GENERAL SECRETARY
I am General Secretary this year which means I work alongside the president to make sure the society runs smoothly. I joined LBSS during my second year at university and I’m so glad I did. I don’t have much dancing experience so I was quite nervous at the start, but dancing and competing with LBSS has been the highlight of my time at university. I have met so many amazing people through the society and am so excited to see what this upcoming year will bring.

TREASURER
I'm the LBSS treasurer this year. I started Latin, Ballroom and Salsa dancing during my undergraduate degree at the University of Bath, and having been treasurer there, I couldn't resist running for it again in Nottingham! Everyone here is so welcoming and friendly, it really helped me feel settled and at home, and there's dancing opportunities with the society almost every day so you'll never be bored!

EXTERNAL RELATIONS OFFICER
I am the External Relations Officer this year, which involves keeping the LBSS social media updated and finding and maintaining society sponsorship. I joined LBSS a year ago and couldn't pick between Latin and Ballroom and salsa, so ended up doing both and absolutely adore them despite having two left feet! I've met so many wonderful people this year and can't wait for the next to begin.

COMPETITION ORGANISER
I’m the Competition Organiser this year! LBSS get involved in many competitions throughout the year, one of which is Nottingham Varsity. This is the 2nd biggest competition we compete in (after the Nationals in Blackpool), and my job is to organise it all. I’ve danced different styles for years, but I only picked up Latin and Ballroom last year. It’s one of the most welcoming societies I’ve come across, and I fell in love with the society and everyone in it. It’s certainly one of my highlights of University.

 DEMONSTRATIONS and OFFBEAT OFFICER
I am the Demonstrations and Offbeat officer this year so I will be organising members to go to events to showcase our society, and Offbeat, which is a dance routine that does not involve Latin and Ballroom, performed at the two biggest competitions. I joined LBSS as I had already done Latin and Ballroom before and decided to continue the hobby at university. It’s been such good fun and a great way to relieve the stress of university. I am super excited to be returning to the society for my second year and I look forward to seeing everyone again and meeting all the new members.

LATIN and BALLROOM
LESSONS OFFICER
I am your Latin and Ballroom lesson officer this year which involves running all the Latin and ballroom classes for the society. I started Latin and Ballroom in my first year in the knowledge that it was something I really wanted to try and I was instantly hooked. I feel well and truly blessed to get to see the members of this society every week and I cannot wait to meet and welcome everyone new next year!

TEAM CAPTAIN
I am one of this year’s Team Captains! I am so excited to get us all training hard and out to competitions. I joined LBSS 2 years ago when I started at Nottingham and have loved every second of it. Competing with the society is like nothing else and I would encourage anyone thinking about trying it to give it a go! The society was so friendly and welcoming when I arrived and I can’t wait for more people to join us.

LATIN and BALLROOM
TEAM CAPTAIN
I am one half of the Team Captain pair for this year, along with Sam. I am the ‘Teaching’ Captain, so I will be looking after the private and group lessons, the pairing up sessions and the team practices. I started dancing long before I came to uni but dancing with a team is just about the best thing in the world. I’m really looking forward to welcoming new members to our society, as well as seeing all the friends I’ve made in the last year.

EVENTS OFFICER
I’m one of your social secretaries this year and I’m so excited for the new season and organising loads of fun events. I joined LBSS last year when I started at the University of Nottingham. The society is full of such interesting, funny and great characters which makes going on trips and on nights out together so much fun. I hope the society can have an incredible time!!

SALSA
LESSONS OFFICER
I'm the salsa lessons officer this year. I'll be there to help out at all the salsa lessons so feel free to ask me any questions. I started dancing a year and a half ago and grew to absolutely love it, despite the fact that I was a terrible dancer when I started. So give it a go, you'll meet lots of people and you'll have a great time.

TEAM CAPTAIN
I am one of the Salsa Team Captains this year. I started dancing just over a year ago and it quickly became my life. It's my personal goal to eventually dance with everyone in the society, at least once, so don't be shy!  Along with organising trips to festivals and competitions, I'll be sharing my knowledge and passion to get everyone else as hooked as I am.
